Hello! Welcome to our second Yamala Yoga Newsletter for 2019!
Wow, this year is just whizzing past already. Kiddies have gone back to school and the year has officially kicked off! Welcome to all our lovely new members this month, it has been such a joy to get back to teaching the Mums and Bubs classes each week. Towards the end of this month/into March we will be welcoming another tiny member to the YY tribe, as our gorgeous Meg is due to give birth. We are over the moon and sooooo excited to meet the newest little yogi. What’s your bet….girl or boy!? We will find out soon enough, yipppe!
In the meantime, lets get stuck into February. The month of LOVE! We have a super loved up special for you all! Mummas, if you buy a 10 Class Pass (for only $50), you’ll get one class FREE! That’s right! 11 Classes for the price of 10…and with the 10 Class Pass you don’t have to worry about bringing cash each week. Bliss. The pass has a 12 month expiry too, so if you’re looking for the perfect gift for a friend (or yourself…we’re all about self love!), why not get in touch to purchase one today!
✽ General Yoga at the Paddington Annexe, Paddington. Our classic Yamala Yoga style class with plenty of flows, deep stretches and meditation suitable for everyone (including beginners, children and advanced yogis!). Casual Classes are $15 or $100 for a 10 Class Pass.
- No Classes for Term 1, 2019
***Please note that due to the arrival of Meg’s little babe at the start of 2019, there will be NO general yoga for Term 1, 2019. We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. If you currently have available classes on your 10-class pass, we have extended the expiry date 10 weeks to account for the reduced classes early next year. We anticipate that Meg will be back to teaching again for Term 2, 2019 (23rd April). ***

THIS MONTH’S TOP STORIES
At Yamala Yoga, we are all about self care and self LOVE. But, we’re also very realistic. We both work in busy medical environments, teach yoga, have families (almost!), want to stay fit and healthy, want to catch up with our friends, and want to be the best versions of ourselves. That is the juggle (and the struggle!!) of modern life. We know what is good for us, and yet there is still so much pressure to be everything for everyone.
This is where creating self care rituals comes in. We know how hard it is to schedule things in each week as there is always something else that pulls our attention and time away. But if we had a routine, a ritual…well, that makes it a whole lot easier!
We have always been big fans of “Self Care Sunday”, and this is a perfect place to start for those of you whole are stuck in the busy-ness of life, going from day-to-day without a break. Scheduling in time (10 minutes or 1 hour…whatever fits in with your life) on a Sunday for YOU is do-able. We promise!
Some of our favourite things to do on Self Care Sunday are:
- Pop on a face mask
- Have a bath with a yummy bath bomb
- Read a chapter of your favourite book
- Have an ice cold beer on the back deck (uninterrupted)
- Go for a walk up Mt. Coot-tha (or a swim in the pool!)
- Eat your favourite ice-cream
- Potter in the garden
- Walk the dog
- Dance to your favourite music in the living room
- Cook your family a delicious meal
- See a movie
- Sleep in!
Whatever it is that really fills your heart, do that EVERY Sunday. Seriously! It is your life and you NEED to start making the time to really live the life of your dreams, because no-one else will.
Once you start making these Self Care Sundays non-negotiable, then you can start to incorporate other self-care and self-love rituals throughout the week. Soon you will be adding in 5 or 10 minutes each day just for yourself, which might not seem like much time at all, but it can really add up to making you happier, calmer and more grateful for what you’ve got.
As yoga teachers, our goal is not to make you touch your toes or hold a headstand for 5 minutes….it is to get everyone to LOVE THEMSELVES exactly as they are. Because, once we love ourselves we are more tolerant of other people. We are more forgiving. We are kinder. We are happier. We are simply, lovelier people when we love ourselves. And who doesn’t want to live in a world with more love?!
So, give it a try this month…Self Care Sunday! We will be posting on social media (Facebook and Instagram) each Sunday for the month of February with our Self Care Sunday rituals to hopefully inspire you and encourage you to start your own self care rituals. Use the hashtag #yyselfcaresunday to post your own and to share with our beautiful community.
Something a little extra….
Health Icy Cool Treats
It’s still hot in Brissy, so why not look after yourself in the heat by indulging in a lovely icy treat!? Healthy ofcourse! Store bought varieties are often laden with sugar, so why not give these easy and delicious alternatives a go? You and your family will absolutely LOVE them. PS you can purchase a mould from Kmart, Coles, Woolworths, IKEA and more! All super cheap and do the job well.
Watermelon, strawberry, raspberry and mint icy poles.
– watermelon (about a cup or two)
– a handful of strawberries (fresh or frozen)
– a handful of raspberries (fresh or frozen)
– lime juice (to taste)
– mint leaves (to taste)
Blend everything together, give it a taste and adjust to your liking! Pour into icy pole moulds and freeze overnight.
Mango, pineapple and passionfruit
– pineapple (about 500ml, fresh, frozen or tinned works well)
– the flesh of about 2 mangoes
– the pulp of 1 passionfruit
Blend together the pineapple and mango. Stir through the passionfruit and pour into icy pole moulds. Freeze overnight.
– a handful of berries (fresh or frozen)
– 1 cup of fruit (more berries, banana, whatever you like!)
– ⅔ cup greek yoghurt (full fat is delicious, but use coconut yoghurt for a dairy free alternative)
– ⅓ cup milk (any type you like!)
Blend all ingredients together, pop into the icy pole moulds and freeze overnight.
All absolutely delicious icy poles, which are equally delicious as a smoothie if you simply cannot wait to freeze them! Give them a go, a perfect treat for any time of the day.
