THIS MONTH’S
TOP STORIES
What we want you to know.
Here are our top things we, as yoga teachers want to tell you!
So why don’t we say the following to you in class? Well, sometimes we are a little shy about telling you what we really think. We want to cheer you on, but we also want you to know that we don’t have our lives figured out…just because we are yoga teachers. We really just want to add some joy to your life and help you achieve optimum health and vitality. Because trust us, we are not in this for the money.
We’ve seen it all in our classes (either taught or attended). The body language, the sneaky sideways glances and the body language from students. We also hear assumptions about yoga or yoga teachers that make us giggle. So let us fill you in on the things we desperately want to tell you, but perhaps won’t!
-
- Yoga is really not that serious
So chill, and enjoy the ride. Have a little fun! - Yoga won’t get you the “perfect body”
Yoga is for all types of bodies, and honestly….we are all different! It’s not about getting that perfectly toned body to look like a supermodel.
- Yoga is really not that serious
- Your body is already perfect
It really is.
- I’m not perfectly healthy all the time
We too, are real people.
- You make us love our job!
You’re amazing and you’ve done so well. We absolutely adore guiding you through your practice each week.
- It doesn’t matter how flexible you are. Leave that ego of yours at the door.
Not practicing yoga because you’re inflexible, is just like saying you’re too dirty to shower! Practice leads to progress. Be patient and kind with yourself.
- Breathe.
Focus on your breath first, even if that means foregoging the asana (pose) and you sit in childs pose. Focusing on your breath and breathing consciously is far more beneficial than muscling your way through the class while holding your breath!
- Stay and enjoy Savasana (corpse pose)
You need that extra 5-10 minutes to full reap the benefits of the time spent on your mat “doing” the asanas/poses. Try not to give in to the Chitta Vritti (mind chatter) and try to practice stillness. The groceries, cooking dinner and kids can wait. This is your time. Enjoy it.
Something a little extra….
Living the life of our dreams.
With our attention and time being dragged in so many directions, it’s easy to lose sight of our lives goals and ambitions. But it doesn’t need to be that way! Let’s start living the life of our dreams with a few simple and easy strategies.
Simplify the commitments in your life.
– Take a step back and look at all the commitments in your week. Seeing everything written down can help you to understand what is truly important in your life. Remove everything that doesn’t bring joy into your life (if you can!).
Take a look at your goals.
– Think about some long term goals (could be anything from learning a new language, to running a marathon). Write them down in order of priority.
Involve others.
– Let someone important to you know about what you would like to achieve. You can support each other, and help each other stay motivated and focused.
Celebrate the wins!
– Enjoy the success of completing a task or each step of the way to achieving your goals. You’ve worked hard…but don’t forget to be present and enjoy the success before moving onto the next stage.
